Target Archery Ranking List 2014

Archery GB publish their national target rankings each year, the 2013 list can be accessed here. It’s your chance to compare your scores with other archers (including Team GB archers).

In order to record achieve a ranking score you must complete various record status shoots (see below). The first of these shoots is in April at Thirsk, the entry form can be found here under ‘FITA entry form 2014’. We are reliably informed that this shoot fills quickly as it’s the first of the season so if you’re interested, it might be  an idea to get an entry form in soon. If you shoot at Thirsk on both Saturday and Sunday, you will have gained your first two 70m scores and your Olympic round (recurve).

Required shoots to obtain Archery GB Target Archery ranking:

Compound Archers
An archer must complete the following three elements:

  • Three ladies/gents FITA rounds appropriate to gender, with World Record status (WRS) (commonly called FITA Stars) or with UK Record Status (UKRS).
  • Two FITA 50m rounds with WRS or UKRS. These can include 50m qualification rounds shot leading to Compound Match rounds.
  • One Compound Match round with a WRS or UKRS.

We’re not sure what a compound match round is, but as soon as we find out we’ll let you know (if anyone can shed any light on this please comment).

Calculations
The scores from each archer’s best 3 ladies/gents FITA rounds, their 2 best FITA 50m rounds and their best 15-arrow match within a Compound Match round will be added to give their total points.

Recurve, Longbow and Barebow
An archer must complete the following three elements:

  • Three ladies/gents FITA rounds appropriate to gender, with World Record status (WRS) (commonly called FITA Stars) or with UK Record Status (UKRS).
  • Two FITA 70m rounds with WRS or UKRS. These can include 70m qualification rounds leading to FITA Olympic rounds.
  • One Olympic round associated with a WRS or UKRS Ladies/Gents FITA or a WRS or UKRS FITA 70m qualification round.

Calculations
The scores from each archer’s best 3 ladies/gents FITA rounds and from their 2 best FITA 70m rounds will be added to give their total points. Archers are required to complete an Olympic round although the scores cannot be used.

Time Limits.
All elements must be completed during the period 1st January to 30th September inclusive.

DNAA postal league results

We’ve put the November results here:

Although Stockton Archers didn’t win our match we came close so fingers crossed for December.

2013, what a year!

I thought I’d write a little retrospective on our first year doing archery.

It’s hard to think that this time last year we’d shot 3 arrows at the big weekend (thanks Norton Archers) and had booked on to do our beginners course with Stockton Archers (we were lucky to get on that course as otherwise we’d have never shot). We were oblivious to the intricacies of tiller and bracing height, had no concept of arrow spine and as for string picture and sighting it read a closed book for us (some may argue it should have stayed closed but sod them).

And so in March this year we went along and did our beginners course with the lovely Peter and the crew from Stockton, and that was pretty much it, we were hooked. We scrimped and saved, sold tablets (the electronic kind) and games consoles and bought our own gear. We struggled to get that gear to do what we wanted and when it did we bought new gear and struggled again (and so on ad infinitum as most archers will appreciate).

Then, in June, on the advice of a “friend” (we love you really John) we entered our first competition and got hooked all over again! In our first year we’ve won trophies (Lou), medals (both of us), a County record (Mike for shooting in a double ladies FITA) and most recently the club award for most improved handicap (Mike again). But more importantly we’ve had loads of fun, stopped being virtual shut ins, got some exercise and meet some really lovely people. It was also really nice to see other members of Stockton Archers joining in the fun by coming and shooting at competitions.

So bring on 2014, we’ve got goals to achieve (or not), competitions to shoot at (note shoot, at not win!) and loads more fun to be had, and we’ll try and keep the blog updated with all our ups and downs. Thanks for reading 🙂

Great to see some new names submitted. For next time, you will have the whole of December and January to keep trying for that exceptional score (remember that they are both counted as one month). When you have your *best* score and you are happy with it please let Graham know. Good shooting!
